Bonsai quando posso

Idee, Bonsai e Prebonsai

All at once

A nice working weekend has just passed. I did a good job (I hope) on the carpinus that I've won at the christmas party.
Roots were pretty lame and I pruned'em, same work on the branchese (some of them were dry).
I also applyed some wiring to give a structure to the branches.
Here how it looks. It's not a classical bonsai style but I have try to exploit the plant caratheristics.

Recent works

Weather is better, at last, so I can start with all the works.
I took a quick pruning on some of the plants and I worked on the cuttings to improve the quality of the recovery.
I've purchased three little picea albertiana plants, I need for my forest. In the pictures you can get an idea on how I want to place them. I also wired some of the branches in the forest to give them a better position, I forgot to take pictures about it (an truth to be said I'm not quite sure about the result).
I also removed the wire from the pinus mugo that I've worked in october. The plant has suffered from a huge strees and it need to be repotted, I prefer to do it withouth the wire on. Matter of fact it was starting to ruin the bark in some points. I only left on the plant bigger wires that keep the strongest branches in place.
As soon as I removed the wire the branches get back in thei position. But I prefer to work in this way.
I created a little forest (similar but smaller to the last year's one) with mixed species. Pot was so small so I cannot place so many trees. I'm not satisfied with it for now but I think it's a good starting point which can br improve with time and more trees. I used for it acer, fagus, carpinus, quercus and some minor leafings.

Really like to do this

Well, one of the things that I like to do is purchase a flowering shrub and turn it into a little Stump style bonsai.
This is a Physocarpus var. Tiny Wine. As you can see I hardly cut both roots and branches to fit it into this tiny pot but I think that it can make it (weather forescast suggest temperature increasing).
Branches have nice movements so I think that the result will be nice.

Formation

Published by Unknown under , , on 12:38

So the pruning season has started, I've exectued two formation cuttings.
Both plant were repotted last year and let free to grow so this time I cut them back as much as possible exploiting the lower buds in order to create movement and a secondary ramification.
Spiraea will need a slight variation on the inclination.
I hope that the Symphorocarpos will grow strong because is really small at the moment.
I have other two stump style to work on. I will certanly wait for the Forsythia to fluorish, I'm not so sure about the Quince since I would like to do an aggressive cutting and maybe the flowering will stole too much energy to the plant.
