Eccomi tornato, sono stato via qualche giorno in ferie e ora torno a scrivere.
Purtroppo non con buone notizie. Niente di grave ma qualche dispiacere.
Essendo lontani in vacanza ho lasciato l'incombenza di bagnare le piante ai miei famigliari. Hanno lavorato molto bene, le piante più grosse non hanno sofferto e anche la maggior parte delle più piccole, anche se con qualche eccezione.
In foto potete vedere qualche piccola betulla, un paio di acerini e il ficus che avevo defogliato che hanno subito un gran colpo di secco.
Sono sicuro che le betulle non si riprenderanno, mentre nutro qualche lieve speranza per l'acerino più grande e soprattutto per il fico che sembra avere qualche piccola fogliolina. Staremo a vedere.
C'è un interessante fatto da notare. Quando rinvasai le betulle decisi di utilizzare vari substrati; qualcuna in akadama pura, qualcuna in pomice e altre in terrici misti.
Le piante che si sono seccate erano in vasi in akadama pura, e già prima della partenza avevo notato come l'akadama avesse già perso parte delle sue caratteristiche diventando troppo compatta e con la tendenza ad asciugarsi molto presto. E' vero che è un'estate particolarmente calda ma sto giungendo alla conclusione che forse nella mia zona la scelta di utilizzare akadama pura potrebbe non essere la migliore.
Sono anche molto preoccupato per le margotte. La scelta di farle senza il sacchetto ma semplicemente col vaso in rete e il substrato potrebbe essersi rivelata davvero sbagliata, oltretutto con le temperature di quest'anno e la totale assenza di piogge.
Vedremo a settembre, Nel qual caso dovrò riprovare il prossimo anno. avendo cura di fare tutto al meglio.

Guess who's back!
I've been away for vacation and now I'm back.
There are some sad news, nothing big though.
Being away for holidays I asked my relatives to water my plants, they've done a good job, the larger plants are fine and most of the little ones are in a good shape too.
But, as you see in the picture some of the smallest suffered from a dry stroke which seriusly injuried them. I think that the two birches are dead, Instead I hope that the maples can survive, there is also the little defoliated fig which has lost all the leaves but present (not visible in the photo) some small new leaves, and I hope it can regain strenght.
Quite interesting that the dry birches were potted in akadama. During this spring repotted I choose to use different soils for the birches to choose which one works better, so some of them were put in akadama, othe in pumice and other in some mixed substrate, akadama soon shows some problem, like an ingrowing solidity of the material. And in fact only the akadama birches went dry.
It's true that it's an incredible hot and dry summer here where I live but that's a fact that the other birches do not shows this problem.
I'm starting to think that pure akadama is not the good solution for me (or maybe for my weather zone).
I'm worried about the layerings. the choice to make them without the bag around it wasn't good. This super hot and dry summer surely didn't help.
Let's see in september, eventually i will retry next year.

Qualche settimana fa ho provato a defogliare il fico di dimensioni mame. Non puntavo ad una riduzione delle dimensione delle foglie (cosa che comunque sarebbe stata importante), ma volevo valutare come la pianta avrebbe risposto a questo trattamento, in riferimento all'arretramento delle foglie lungo i rami.
La pianta era stata ben concimata prima, ero quindi fiducioso, la pianta ha reagito bene e ha prontamente ributtato le foglie.
La foglioline si sono sviluppate a partire dalla foglia più apicale del ramo, solo una piccola fogliolina è apparsa sul ramo basso escluse quelle apicali, e in generale la pianta ha seguito questo tipo di andamento.
La prossima mossa sarà accorciare il ramo alla prima fogliolina e eliminare il resto.
Non ho notato una riduzione delle dimensioni delle foglie, per essere una pianta raccolta solo un paio di anni fa direi che la dimensione attuale è già significativamente ridotta rispetto ad un fico comune.

Some weeks ago I defoliated the mame fig. I wasn't looking for a leaves reduction, but I want to increase the number of the leaves and to force the back buds to grow.
The plant was well feeded before and it responded well.
Unfortunatly the new leaves came out only from the apical buds, and only some spare leaves growth from the back buds.
So my initial idea did not work properly, I have now to cut back the lower branch to the single leaf.
I haven't noticed a dimension decrease of the leaves (but there's to say that the leaves are small compared to the usual figs).
