Sabato mattina il mio amico Matteo ha portato alcune delle sue piante, abbiamo valutato una ad una il da farsi.
La piccola magnolia (purtroppo non abbiamo una foto) non è stata lavorata né rinvasata in quanto vogliamo lasciarle tutte le energie per tentare una margotta aerea per abbassare la pianta e creare un nuovo nebari.
Abbiamo fatto un lavoro più deciso sulla pseudocydonia; la pianta era stata acquistata da Matteo durante il congresso UBI di Torino della scorsa primavera. Il difetto della pianta era il tronco lungo e dritto che partiva dopo la curva ricoperta da una spessa corteccia.
Dato che conosciamo poco la pianta abbiamo deciso di aspettare a rinvasarla (il substrato sembra buono e ben drenante) e l'abbiamo potata drasticamente, comunque non alla prima gemma disponibile, abbiamo mantenuto infatti alcune gemme più alte così da mantenere i rami più reattivi.
Col tempo cercheremo di abbassare ulteriormente la pianta, e durante il rinvaso valuteremo l'inclinazione migliore tenendo conto anche della disposizione delle radici.
Abbiamo lavorato in maniera importante anche col piccolo melo che è stato rinvasato (le radici sono ben radiali, potenzialmente si potrà avere un buon nebari) ed è stato anche molto abbassato per rimuovere la parte alta che era sproporzionata.

Saturday moring my friand Matteo came to visit bringing his own plants, we checked them to decide how to work on them.
Matteo brought a Magnolia, a Pseudocydonia and an apple.
We didn't do anything on the magnolia (sorry for the lack of a picture) because we are planning to try an air layering late this spring, so we preferred to do not stress the plant with a repot.
Instead we gave a drastic prune to the pseudocydonia; this plant was purchased by Matteo during the UBI convenction in Turin last spring. The issue with this bonsai was the straight cilindryc branch wich depart form the old rough bark.
So we cut it back hard (not at the first bud tough, we leave some higher buds as a safety margin), and we decide to not repot, apparently the soil appears fine.
Obviously this pseudocydonia needs to lower even more, moreover with the repot it will be possible to check how the roots are disposed, so maybe the front and the inclination can be changed.
We also repot a little apple (the roots are well radial placed, a good nebari starting), even in this case we did a good cutting back.

Eccomi, come anticipato giovedi sera ho portato il melo al club bonsai par analizzarlo e ascoltare qualche buona idea sul da farsi. Date le caratteristiche della pianta: tronco giovane e non molto conico e ramificazione ipersviluppata è necessario ripensare alla struttura della pianta per migliorarne l'aspetto.

La soluzione più indicata è utilizzare il primo ramo della pianta ed eliminare tutta la parte alta.

In questo modo si avrebbe un buon movimento e migliorerebbe anche la conictà generale, in più posso sfruttare le nuove gemmi e con i nuovi getti creare una ramificazione più compatta e proporzionata.

Per non perdere la parte alta del melo farò un margotta (devo ancora scegliere il punto più adatto).

Per ora ho iniziato a potare i rami più grossi e verticali, così da vedere bene la struttura dei rami e fare un paio di disegni, sia per la parte bassa della pianta sia per la nuova che avró con la margotta.

Here i am, thursday evening i've brought the apple tree to the bonsai club to get some hints.

The tree has some issues, just like the young cilindric trunk and the over developed ramification so is necessary to rethink about the whole tree structure.

The solution is to use the lower branche has new apex, in this way the conicity of the trunk will be increased and new thin ramification will be created using new buds.

I do not want to lose all the higher part of the tree so probably i will air layer it to have new litlle apple tree.

I have to do a couple of sketches to define a "definitve" shape of the trees for both the lower and the higher part of this apple.

La brutta notizia è che l'agrifoglio sembra davvero passato a miglior vita.

Questo melo (malus) è una delle piante della mia collezione che preferisco, soprattutto durante la fioritura, anche se ad oggi sono molto indeciso su come proseguire il suo sviluppo.
Le prime foto della pianta sono del 2012 anche se la possiedo da qualche annetto in più. E' stato un regalo di un amico anch'egli appassionato di bonsai. Non ricordo se la pianta era ricavata da una margotta o da talea. E' una pianta molto forte ed è cresciuta moltissimo in questi anni, ora è alta circa 40 cm.
Come si vede nelle foto la pianta presenta una magnifica fioritura ma al contempo la struttura della pianta è sproporzionata con rami troppo grossi e dritti. Non so se margottarla per abbassarla e al contempo margottare i rami per ottenere degli altri meli o se semplicemente potarla e ricostruire la struttura... Sono davvero indeciso...

This apple tree (malus) is one of my favourite, especially during the flowering period. It was gave to me by a bonsaist friend several years ago (even though the first photos are from 2012 i own it from 2010 i think), i don't remember if he collected it from an air layering or a cutting.
As the photo shows the plant had a huge develop during this years (now is about 40cm-15in high) and when is covered with flowers is really amazing. The problem is clearly shown in the wintertime silouetthe, the structure is not good with too many thick stright branches. I really don't know what to do now, i have some ideas like an air layering to lower the tree (and other air layering to collect new plants from the higher branches) or a huge cut back to make grow a new brach structure... i just don't know, i'm waiting for THE good idea...
