Bonsai quando posso

Idee, Bonsai e Prebonsai

A hundred of this Fir (First Bonsai Do Groane workshop)

Entering into blogger I find out that this post would be the 100!
It's a nice round number and in some way it's a little goal, so I'm happy to celebrate it with a post about a really satisfying work.
Let's start from the beginning.
This year with the bonsai club we have the possiblity to have some workshops with Master Settembrini, in this meeting we can work on a specific bonsai or technique.
So the week before the workshop I looked for a good plant to work on, I was looking for a low price nursery plant. On saturday morning I went in a couple of nursery but I couldn't find anything. But just before leaving the last one (and without much hope) my eyes noticed this Korean Fir (Abies Koreana) exemplar. It was the classica fir as you exepct it but the good conicity and the quality of the branches made me though about a formal upright style, only the nebari wasn't as good as the rest of the tree but I cannot check it at that moment.
I never had any experience about this style which is far from simple to create so I decide to give this plant a chance.
So saturday morning I went to the club with my Fir and after the initials instruction given me by the Master i started to work on it, With his help I removed part of the bark (necessary to create a shari), i cleaned up the trunk, cut some branches, create some jin and wired the branches.
As the wiring was complete Master took his part to style the bonsai.
We choose to not to cut all the unnecessary branches since the plant has already suffered a shock with all our treatments, however the plant is young and strong so I think it will react well.
For this year I wont prune or pinch it, I will only look after for the wire not to ruin the bark.
The workshop took all day but I'm very proud and satisfied about my new bonsai, I learned a lot both from the point of view of the approach and the working and I am sure that if I follow the acquired knowledge applying it promptly this former garden plant will become a good bonsai.
